The Daily Record - 10/8/2018

AKRON — Akron Children’s Hospital has a new director of pediatric psychiatry and psychology.

Dr. Steven Jewell, who most recently served as the vice president and medical director at Child Guidance & Family Solutions in Akron, has replaced Dr. Stephen Cosby, who retired in June, according to a news release from the hospital.

Jewell, of Richfield, started working for Child Guidance & Family Solutions in 2005, and has been on the psychiatric staff at Akron Children’s since 2007, according to the release.

“Patient care, professional education and advocacy are among Dr. Jewell’s special areas of interest and scholarship,” the release stated. “He provides advocacy on behalf of families raising children with severe mental illness as a member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, for which he previously served on the Ohio board of trustees.”

Additionally, Jewell has been a professor of psychiatry at Northeastern Ohio Medical University (NEOMED). Jewell holds a bachelor’s and medical degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. According to the release, Jewell worked a variety of child psychiatry jobs in the Pittsburgh area before moving to the Akron area.
